Following a spate of mindless vandalism in the village, Parish Council Chairman and ASB Officer, Cllr Kenn Griffiths has praised the work of locally deployed Police Community Support Officers and Young People in the village.
The Parish Council spent more than £100,000 improving the facility and developing the children’s play area at the Meigh Road Playing Fields in 2016.
Last week vandals removed safety barriers, damaged play equipment, set fires and emptied litter bins in an act of mindless vandalism
“One of our residents, a woman walking her dog, was hit in the face by a brick thrown at her by one of a gang of unruly young people. We (the Parish Council) have been working very closely with the police and local young people to combat an increase in ASB over the past 12 months. Clearly our efforts are paying off as on this occasion local children who use the area named an offender and our PCSO’s quickly responded and are currently carrying out enquiries involving an individual who is not a resident of Werrington.”
Last year Cllr Griffiths launched a ASB Hub based in the local library where people can report incidents and be supported if needed.
